#1. About these terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the SAFAI app, the SAFAI Collector app, and the SAFAI website (together, the "Service"), operated by ECOSNAP Software Developer Private Limited ("SAFAI", "we", "us" or "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

#2. The Service

SAFAI supports doorstep collection of segregated household waste in the areas where the service operates.

  • Residents use the SAFAI app to register their household, show their household's QR code when the collector arrives, see each pickup by weight, earn points for good segregation, and report problems.
  • Collectors use the SAFAI Collector app to follow their route, verify households and record pickups and missed stops.

Collection days, timings and coverage are decided by your ward or local body and may change. The app shows the schedule that applies to your household.

#3. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be 18 or over to create an account. A person under 18 may use SAFAI only as a member of a household, with the consent of a parent or lawful guardian.
  • You sign in with your mobile number and a one-time code. Each mobile number can have one account. Keep your phone secure, because anyone who can receive your codes can use your account.
  • Signing in on a new device signs you out of the previous one.
  • Keep your details accurate, including your name, address and number of household members. Incorrect details can lead to missed collections or wrong points.
  • You are responsible for everything done through your account.

#4. Households

  • Creating a household: you may create a household only at an address where you live, or where you are authorised to arrange waste collection. Only one household can be registered at each address. The person who creates it becomes its owner.
  • Joining a household: you can ask to join using its invite code. The owner decides whether to approve your request.
  • The owner's role: the owner approves or declines requests, removes members, keeps the household's details up to date, and may report and block someone who asks to join without reason.
  • Leaving: a member can leave at any time. An owner who wants to leave or delete their account must first hand ownership to another member.
  • Address claims: if someone else has registered a household at your address, you can tell us using "This isn't my household". Claims must be truthful and supported by a genuine document. False claims or forged documents may lead to your account being suspended.

#5. Collection and pickups

  • Put your waste out separated into the categories shown in the app (plastic, organic and general) at the times set for your ward. Use "Ready for SAFAI" to tell your collector whether to stop.
  • When the collector arrives, show your household's QR code or read out the 6-digit code beneath it. The code changes every minute. Do not share it with anyone else.
  • The collector weighs and records each category and how well it was separated. These records are the basis for your points and your household's history.
  • If a pickup was missed, recorded with the wrong weight, or not scanned, report it in the app within time limit, e.g. 7 days. The ward team reviews each report. Their decision on how a record is corrected is final within the Service.
  • We may be unable to collect because of access problems, unsafe conditions, weather, holidays or other reasons outside our control. When a stop is missed, the app tells you why.

#6. Points and the leaderboard

  • Points are awarded for the weight of waste collected from your household, with a bonus when it is properly separated. The rules are shown in the app's FAQs and may change.
  • Points recognise participation. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be sold or transferred between households. If points can be redeemed for rewards, state the programme here or link to its terms.
  • We may correct points awarded by mistake, and remove points obtained through misuse, such as false scans or tampered weights.
  • Your household's name, emblem and weight collected appear on the neighbourhood leaderboard unless you turn this off in your profile.

#7. The SAFAI Collector app

  • The SAFAI Collector app is only for collectors authorised by their employing organisation. Accounts are created by administrators and must not be shared.
  • Collectors must record pickups, weights, segregation and missed stops truthfully, and must verify a household only when they are at that household.
  • These Terms apply alongside the collector's terms of engagement with their employer. If the two conflict on employment matters, the terms of engagement prevail.

#8. Acceptable use

When using the Service you must not:

  • Provide false information, impersonate anyone, or register a household at an address you have no right to use.
  • Share, copy or misuse QR codes or one-time codes, or record pickups that did not happen.
  • Harass or abuse collectors, other residents or staff, including through join requests or reports.
  • Upload unlawful, offensive or misleading content, or documents you are not entitled to share.
  • Try to gain unauthorised access to accounts or systems, disrupt the Service, or reverse-engineer the apps.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

#9. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos, notes and documents you upload. You allow us to store, process and display them to the people described in our Privacy Policy, only to provide the Service and resolve reports and claims. You confirm that you have the right to upload them.

#10. Our intellectual property

The apps, the website, the SAFAI name and logo, and all related software and designs belong to ECOSNAP Software Developer Private Limited or its licensors. You may use the apps for their intended purpose, but these Terms give you no other rights in them.

#11. Changes to the Service

We may add, change, suspend or remove features, coverage areas or the Service as a whole, for example to improve it, keep it secure or comply with the law. We will try to give notice of significant changes in the app. We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available or free of errors.

#12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law:

  • We do not guarantee any particular collection schedule, and we are not responsible for delays or missed collections caused by events outside our reasonable control.
  • We are not responsible for losses arising from incorrect information you provide, from someone else using your phone or codes, or from your breach of these Terms.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to liability cap, e.g. INR 1,000.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under applicable consumer protection law that cannot be limited.

#13. Suspension and ending your account

  • You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account, subject to handing over ownership if you own a household with other members.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms, is used fraudulently or abusively, or creates a legal or security risk. Where appropriate we will tell you why and give you an opportunity to respond.

#14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the new version here with a new effective date and, for significant changes, notify you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.

#15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Please raise any dispute with us first, through the contact details below, so that we can try to resolve it. If it cannot be resolved, the courts at City have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any rights you have under consumer protection law.
